Food for thoughts

Today there is a client asking me what type of insurance is suitable for him.

My reply to him is very simple.

For instance, a single person his/her main concern would be for coverage against disability, critical illness and also most importantly a good medical insurance so that they wont become a burden to the parents or sibling(s). After ensuring he/she have sufficient coverage against all these, then we look into retirement planning.

A married couple with no kids, would be a good medical insurance for both of them and a plan covers Death, Disability and Critical Illness would be encourage to prevent becoming a burden to each other.

Married Couple with young kids, would be a good medical insurance for whole family as in the event of any family memebers admitted to hospital, the bills will eventually be a burden. Next would be a insurance plan, best taken during pregnancy for the little baby inside mummy wombs. These would cover if the baby happen to have any problems after birth. And also needless to say insurance coverage for both parents as they are the breadwinner of the family. After ensuring all these coverage for each member, then we look into education planning and retirement planning.

The reason why i keep emphasis insurance is important is not because retirement or education not important. Is because without you, there wont be any future DREAMS for your FAMILY n YOU!

OMG What is this?

Hi Everyone, to my surprise that the recent interest rate from all Banks are relatively Pathetic.

Base on Average Person save a month $200, $2400 a year

> DBS - 0.05% ($1.20 interest)
> OCBC - 0.05% ($1.20)
> UOB - 0.05% ($1.20)
> HSBC - 0.01% ($0.24)
> Standard Chartered: 0.1% ($2.40)
> Citibank Step Up Interest - 0.01% up to max of 0.13% ($0.24 to $3.12)

OMG can we really depend on Bank Interests rate to grow our money? When the inflation rate currently now is 5.5%?

How much does it Cost to bring up a Child?

Have you ever wonder how much do you need to have in order to bring up a child, from baby to toddler, toddler to young kids, young kids to teenager, teenager to a young adult? Perhaps costs differ from countries to countries. However in Singapore, the cost of upbring a child all the way to Degree Education. Is mention to be 1 Million per child.

Interesting Video Done by Singapore Poly Student. Check it out..

Is true that most of the Parents main concern are the cost of education. As all parents wanted to give their best to the children. What kind of method is the best way to accumulate education funds for the kids? But before the parents think of starting a education plan for them, do take note that they themselves must be insured well, not only in the event of Death. Also dont forget about Critical Illness and Disability Coverage.

Below are my personal opinion which I think are a better solution about education saving,

1> A Investment Linked Program, which cater insurance and as well as investment component. The reason why I prefer this type of plan is mainly because of the flexibility and also the potiential cashvalue I can get from the investment.

2> A trad saving program, [which is not save in the bank] endowment policy (to be known) with flexibility of cashback withdrawal. So I can use the cashback yearly to pay for my child's Pre school costs, and also Primary and Secondary textbooks and uniform.

My posts would to be continue in the next entries.

How to do a Claim?

This posting I would like to share on Death Claim.

The claim procedure differs between companies to companies. The proper claimant for this type of claim will be the Spouse, Parents, Children, Sibling.Standard Documents needed will be Death Certificate, Nomination or Wills (if any) and also the deceased birth certificate, Marriage certificate (if the deceased is married), Child Birth certificate (if the deceased have children). Sibling Birth Certificate (if the deceased is not married and parents are no longer around).

However another tricky part will be if the person is pass away oversea, besides the normal document to be submit. The insurer company might also need an identity form to prove that the deceased is already dead. Just in case of the dperson is actually alive and to cheat the claim. And also the rightful claimant will also need to go to ICA to certify the Death Certificate.

For better understanding, you can visit on this website,

It is still better to have a Nomination or Will, so as to speed up the procedure of the claim and to smoothen the whole process.

What is Insurance?

When I was young, my opinion for Insurance was very negative. However, generally when I gets older, i start to realise the importance of Insurance. Especially something happen to one of my closest relative.

However now my opinion towards insurance is that it is not only a contract between the insurance company and the policy owner. But is also a Love for the spouse and children or even for yourself.
